Home of the month - October

At the far end of Trädgårdgatan towards Svandammen, next door to Café Fågelsången, is Östgöta nation's housing and here I meet Camilla who lives in a studio apartment on the top floor. The location is really roght the center of town with both the nations and the city center more or less around the corner, something that Camilla think is the best thing with the apartment, that and the parquet floors.

- I did not realize how much I missed having hardwood floors before I moved in here, says Camilla.

When you walk in the door is the first thing you notice at the apartment of the fireplace, which actually works, something that really does not exist in many student apartments. The bed is in an alcove so it comes out of the way and gives me the feeling  that I'm in someone's living room and not in the bedroom, something that can easily happen when someone is living in a studio. The apartment also have windows in two directions, which means that it is bright in spite of the many nooks and crannies. When asked if there is no bad thing with the apartment Camilla responds to it is that it can sometimes be a lot of noise when both the ambulance and ambulance helicopters go by when they are heading for the University Hospital. The stove in the kitchen has only two burners, but Camilla think it still is rare to need more and the oven works great for cooking, although it might not be so good if you would like to bake bread.

For the apartment Camilla pays 3800 SEK a month for eleven months, including broadband, heating and electricity. Apartments like this are not entirely easy to get, Camilla had when she moved into in June 2009 stood on the waiting list for nine semesters and has been working a lot on the nation, which provide additional points in the queue and she believes that it would have been very difficult to get the apartment without her involvement in the nation.

Now that autumn has come to Uppsala with rain, bad weather and dark nights, it's hard to imagine a better apartment than Camilla, and the fireplace where you can light a cozy fire and if you need to go outside the door it's not far away to go anywhere. You can thus live really well in Uppsala, even if you are a student and you are not able to buy an apartment.
